Morning Thoughts: More Than Skin Deep
Last night I was scrolling through my timeline while watching the MTV red carpet and I stumbled upon a tweet about Miss USA airing on NBC. In the past Miss USA never peaked my interest, but for some reason I wanted to see what this huge production was all about.
I tuned in during the swimwear segment, and of course all the ladies had amazing bodies, makeup done to perfection and slick hair without a strand out of place. As I started to get a little bored, Miss Oklahoma walked out…I immediately set up in my bed and was glued to the screen. There is no doubt that she is gorgeous (Her hair color and flowy, flirty bangs are STRIKING!), but it was something more than the makeup and hair that was so intriguing.
As the camera scanned the stage of all the girls during the announcement of the Top 10 finalist, I looked out for Miss Oklahoma praying she would make it to the next round. As I watched all the girls, I realized Miss Oklahoma stood out from all the rest. There was something about her presence that exuded beauty from the inside that made her more than a beautiful face. I could go on and on about the actual competition, but that isn’t the purpose of this post. (fyi: Miss Oklahoma did make it to the Top 10)
When I woke up this morning, I got online to learn more about Miss Oklahoma. Some may think I’m crazy… but I am a lover of pure beauty! I am always so fascinated that it’s millions of women in the world but God created each woman very different from the next. The perfect mixture of a woman embracing what is different about her, accepting her flaws and stepping out with confidence makes her unstoppable!
Lauren Lundeen (Miss Oklahoma) is an example of a young woman who has beauty that is more than skin deep. She is a Godly woman living out her purpose and with style and grace. She tweeted this morning :
I thought this was so powerful because Lauren realizes, in doing what she loves and fulfilling her purpose she is glorifying God. A beautiful face may open doors, but what you have to offer keeps you there. Lauren has a big place in her heart for children; holding the title of Miss Oklahoma has given her the opportunity to volunteer with many organizations that focus on children’s needs.
Lauren is 20 years-old and has been a dancer for 16 years. Not wanting to give up on her dream of being a famous dancer she double majors in modern dance and human relations. Her long-term goal is to partner with a non-profit to open a dance studio, reaching out to underprivileged children. Lauren lives by “God’s plan for your life far exceeds the circumstances of your day.”
Lauren is connected to an industry that some only see beauty in skin. However, Lauren knowing she has more to offer she stands out with a beauty that many don’t understand. I knew nothing about Lauren when she caught my eye standing among many other “beautiful” women. Now, knowing more about her I complete understand why her beautiful spirit radiates in all that she does.
So ladies, I decided to share some of my morning thoughts with you to show that your beautiful face and body is NOT your meal ticket. God has put beauty in us that is more than skin deep and if we tap into whats inside we become more beautiful on the outside. We are all perfectly made to fit our purpose in life. Once understanding that, you will start to find beauty in flaws that you may have hated or tried to change in the past. LOVE who you are, LOVE what makes you different, LOVE that you have beauty that is more than skin deep.
